The 23 Things
Listed below are the 23 things that you can do on the web to explore and expand your knowledge of the internet and web 2.0. This is a 12 week programme beginning in September 2009. Once you are signed up, discovery exercises will be emailed to you on a weekly basis and you are encouraged to complete all 23 things with the the 12 weeks time frame. You will be asked to write about your experiences of each 'thing' on your blog which you will create in week 2 and everyone who finishes the programme will be awarded a certificate of completion.
Week 1 Introduction
Thing 1 Find out about getting started with the Learning 2.0 (the 23 things) programme.
Thing 2 Set up a Google account.
Week 2 Blogging
Thing 3 Set up your own blog and add your first post. (Dont' forget to email the LNSS Administrator your blog name and blog address)
Week 3 RSS & Newsreaders
Thing 4 Learn about and set up an RSS Feeds and set up your own newsreader account using Bloglines or google reader to bring your feeds together.
Week 4 Online Photos & Images
Thing 5 Learn about Flickr and create an account.
Thing 6 Have some Flickr fun and discover some Flickr mashups & third party sites.
Thing 7 Play around with an online image generator.
Week 5 Tagging, Del.icio.us & Technorati
Thing 8 Learn about tagging and discover delicious (a social bookmarking site)
Thing 9 Explore Technorati (a search engine for searching blogs) and learn how tags work with blog posts.
Week 6 Your Own Digital Library
Thing 10 Take a look at LibraryThing to create a catalogue of your favourite books.
Thing 11 Use googleBOOKS to view some digitised books online.
Thing 12 Learn about ebooks, eBook readers and eAudiobooks
Week 7 Wikis
Thing 13 Learn about Wikis and discover some innovative ways that libraries are using them.
Week 8 Discover YouTube and learn about Podcasts
Thing 14 Discover YouTube and a few sites that allow users to upload and share videos.
Thing 15 Learn about podcasts.
Week 9 Social Networking
Thing 16 Take a look at some Social Networking Sites; including Facebook, Beebo and Twitter
Thing 17 Explore Widgets
Thing 18 Discover Instant Messaging and Skype
Week 10 Organise your Online Environment
Thing 19 Learn about Online Appications & Personalised Hompages
Thing 20 Explore another online application GoogleMAPS & Google Earth.
Week 11 - Online Gaming
Thing 21 Discover online gaming and there use in your library.
Thing 22 Explore any site from the Web 2.0 awards list
Week 12
Thing 23 Summarise your thoughts about this programme.
